Non-Chemical Hair Dye Method: Dip-dye Your Hair with Kool-Aid
If you are bored with your long hair but too scared to commit to permanent dyes, why not dye your with Kool-Aid? You read that right, dip dye your hair in Kool-Aid. You can get Kool-Aid at about SGD $7 from the Cold Storage. The process is easy you just need the following:
- 2 packets of Kool-Aid (I used strawberry, if you have darker hair you can choose any grape flavored powdered juice)
- 2-3 squeezes of white colored conditioner
- A few drops of water
- Plastic bowl
- Brush applicator
- Plastic gloves
- A cape to protect your clothes, an old t-shirt would do
- Hair elastics
- Plastic bags
Just for reference, my hair is dyed with Etude House’s Bubble Hair Dye in Natural Brown. I’ve also bleached the tips of my hair for highlights.
Line your working surface with newspaper or plastic. Add the Kool-Aid, conditioner and water together until you’ve got a smooth paste.
Divide your hair into 2 parts, as if you were to fix it in pigtails. On the ends of your hair, apply the coloring paste. I applied most of the coloring paste 2-3 inches from the ends of my hair. Repeat this on the other side. Place your hair in the plastic bag and secure with an elastic. Massage it for about 3-5 minutes. Leave it on overnight.
Result: Mine was reddish brown in color because the base color of my hair is golden brown. This works best for ash blonde or ash brown hair. If your hair is dark, using a purple colored juice powder would look great!
There you have it! You’ve got sweet smelling dip dyed hair without the harmful chemicals. Color and strawberry scent should last for about 2-3 days. Try it and let us know how well did it go. Happy dip-dyeing!
